Fill 'er up; U.S. Defense Logistics Agency spent $1,551,570,807 on fuel in December 2010

From Defense Industry Daily, more evidence that the U.S. is in a state of perpetual war for the sake of war itself, not only in the oil rich Middle East, but also in oil rich Africa, which, in December 2007, surpassed the Middle East as a source of U.S. oil imports:

The US military uses far more fuel than any branch of the American government, and the US Air Force uses far more fuel than the other services. DID has spotlighted the magnitude of these buys before, in March 2009 and March 2006, as a way of driving this reality home. The phenomenon has also been examined by organizations like the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the Brookings Institute, both of whom have raised concerns about meeting that demand in future.

March is not the only month for fuel contracts by any means, as purchases continue throughout the year. These purchases are handled by the US military’s Defense Logistics Agency Energy, located in Fort Belvoir, VA. To date, December 2010 fuel contracts total $1,551,570,807.

Anti-war protesters follow Obama in India

Bloomberg News provided additional cues as to what Obama's visit to India was really about, including $4.5 billion worth of Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft:

"With Obama in attendance, Indian companies and ministries will probably ink a half a dozen deals with U.S. outfits, some of them months in the making. There's a $4.5 billion order for Boeing C-17 transports, says Ron Somers, president of the U.S.-India Business Council. He says the Indians may announce a $4 billion contract for either GE or Caterpillar (CAT) to supply diesel locomotives."
